About Us
MSF Sugar is a leading Australian sugar producer and renewable energy. With over 125 years of history, we are a dynamic and forward-thinking company focused on operational excellence, sustainability and innovation. Based in Far North Queensland and part of the global Mitr Phol Group, we operate three sugar mills, extensive farming assets, and a renewable power station producing green energy from bagasse.
The Role
MSF Sugar is seeking applications for a process-focused Console Driver to join our team on a permanent full-time basis at the Mulgrave Central Mill, located just 20 minutes from Cairns.
This role is a technical position within the processing operations on shift during the Crushing Season, following a 24-hour continuous crushing roster.
During the Maintenance Season, you will be undertaking preventative maintenance on the factory plant following an RDO/ADO roster on day work.
This position is responsible for and plays a critical role in supporting factory production objectives by optimising the performance of throughput and efficiency of the milling train and powerhouse operations. This role operates, controls, and monitors key factory processes to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient extraction of juice from cane and the generation of electricity, while maintaining compliance with operational procedures, responding to operational issues, and contributing to continuous improvement and quality requirements.
During periods when console operating duties are not required, such as mechanical breakdowns, extended interruptions of cane supply due to wet weather, or end-of-season clean-up activities, this position may be required to undertake other duties within the factory. These duties may be performed within their designated work area or elsewhere across the site, depending on operational requirements.
During the non-crush period, the Console Driver will work with the Engineering team to assist with the maintenance, overhaul, and preparation of factory equipment and associated plant, undertaking work commensurate with their skills, training, and competencies.
Key Responsibilities
Operate and monitor milling train and powerhouse equipment to achieve production, throughput, and efficiency targets.
Control and optimise shredder, mill, maceration, steam, and power generation systems in accordance with operating procedures.
Monitor automated control systems, minimise manual interventions, and accurately record operational deviations.
Respond promptly to safety, environmental, and operational issues, taking immediate action where required.
Maintain accurate operational records, including production losses, downtime, energy usage, and system performance.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, trades personnel, laboratory staff, and other operational areas to ensure smooth factory operations.
Conduct routine equipment inspections and support risk assessment, incident reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
Coordinate sampling activities and review laboratory data to identify and respond to process performance variations.
Maintain high standards of housekeeping, safety, environmental compliance, and quality control.
