We are looking for someone who is highly analytical, exceptionally organised and technologically savvy, with the ability to work within our custom-built estimating systems and processes.

About the Role

Reporting directly to Management, you will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, tender submissions, project budgets and feasibility assessments across a variety of construction projects.

You will work closely with our Construction Manager, Supervisors, Design Team and Management to ensure projects are accurately costed, commercially viable and delivered successfully.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting quantity take-offs and material take-offs for labour, materials, subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Reviewing plans and specifications for buildability, cost efficiency and value engineering opportunities.

  • Obtaining, analysing and negotiating supplier and subcontractor quotations.

  • Conducting site inspections and project assessments where required.

  • Identifying project risks, allowances and contingencies and incorporating these into project estimates.

  • Maintaining supplier pricing agreements, estimating databases and historical cost libraries.

  • Analysing historical project costs and regional pricing information to improve estimating accuracy.

  • Assisting with procurement reviews, variation pricing and project cost management throughout construction.

  • Supporting Management with project forecasting, budgeting and commercial analysis.

  • Collaborating with Sales, Design, Drafting and Construction teams to ensure seamless project delivery.

  • Assisting in the ongoing development and improvement of Allaro Homes' custom-built estimating systems and processes.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Proven experience as an Estimator within the residential, commercial or construction industry.

  • Demonstrated experience estimating custom homes, civil subdivisions, multi-residential and/or commercial construction projects.

  • Exceptional computer skills and the ability to quickly learn and utilise custom-built estimating software and business systems.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data analysis, reporting and cost modelling.

  • Strong understanding of construction methods, materials and building practices.

  • Ability to interpret plans, engineering drawings, specifications and contract documentation.

  • Excellent numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of project costs, budgets and margins.

  • High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to manage large volumes of information.

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, tenders and deadlines simultaneously.

  • Experience maintaining electronic databases, pricing schedules and cost information.

  • Confidence liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and subcontractors.

  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach and commitment to continuous improvement.

  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic and team-first mindset.

Desirable

  • Experience estimating lifestyle villages, unit developments, commercial projects or subdivisions.

  • Experience with procurement, contract administration and variation management.

  • Experience with estimating, project management and construction software platforms.

  • Trade, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Engineering or other construction-related qualifications.

  • Knowledge of Far North Queensland construction practices, suppliers and regional pricing.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary package based on experience and capability.

  • Long-term career opportunity with a growing and highly respected construction company.

  • Diverse and interesting projects across residential, commercial and development sectors.

  • Modern office facilities in Cairns.
